This past weekend: More roofing

This past Saturday and Sunday consisted of more roofing, more trimming, and more painting. The boys continued working on the roof, Ken hung more trim on the exterior of the house, and I painted it. I didn't take any new painting photos since I already posted some, but I did take a few new roof ones:

Big thanks to Ryan, Joshua, and Ben. They worked over 12 hours on Saturday!

Painting & Puppies

Last weekend Ken began to hang trim on the house and I wasn't far behind painting:
The trim color is called "casa blanca". It's sort of an almond color.

See the wood around the windows? That trim will likely need 2-3 coats.

Fortunately for me, this side of the house is shaded until mid afternoon! (Then it feels like a broiler once the sun hits, so I have to time my painting route carefully...)

While I piddled with paint, the guys worked on the roof

They had a pretty good system down and overall, worked well together.

My attention wasn't completely on painting, because this little guy captured it for the day:
It was pretty hard to get anything done with this little face saying "come play with me!"

One of the roofers found this puppy at a gas station (isn't that awful?!) a couple weeks ago and brought him to work to hang out

He was super sweet. His name was Debo (yes, like from the movie "Friday")

At least I wasn't the only one who couldn't resist...

In addition to petting the puppy, I somehow manage to get a decent amount of painting done :)

Summer in Florida

As mentioned in my last post, the guys started work on the roof last weekend. Saturday brought good weather, but Sunday was a different story. The day started out fine, with the guys working on the roof and me taking some pictures of stuff around the house:

Back patio: doors installed!

Kitchen windows, from the outside

Outdoor shower on the back of the house

Northwest corner view: master bath windows

Ken painted the trim and siding on the dormer

A/C duct work installed!

We hung electrical boxes for switches and outlets

Then came the rain, from what seemed out of nowhere:

It was enough to halt the boys in their work

...and cause a mud flood in the back!

The water really pooled up in the front yard, and nearly covered the roof tin under water:

The boys waited for it to pass...

But it didn't seem to be letting up anytime soon.

 Typical Florida during the summer!

At least we now know the areas that need to be leveled out, and the parts that need more dirt added

It rained for about 45 minutes, so we called it a day. We ended up cleaning up around the lot then enjoyed the rest of the day at home!

Roof time!

Roof work was started a couple weeks ago. Ken assembled a group of younger guys to handle the job and bypassed hiring a subcontractor to do the work. It is really coming along! They were out there all last weekend, couple days during the week, and this entire weekend as well.

Siding and trim has to be put on the dormers before the roof goes on

There's Java, nailing stuff off while Ken stayed on the ground to cut

They were fast!
